The Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG), established 26 years ago by eight independent winemakers with a vision to ensure that South African winemakers would be ranked amongst the world’s best by international opinion leaders, currently comprises 38 of the country’s most respected winemakers. Their tireless pursuit of continuous improvement, innovation and the development of winemakers from previously disadvantaged communities through its Protégé Programme has set new standards in winemaking.

Membership of the CWG is by invitation only and is extended to winemakers who have been responsible for the production of outstanding wines for a minimum of five years, and who continue to achieve this.

Every year the members submit a select quantity of wines crafted exclusively for the prestigious annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction. All Auction wines undergo rigorous screening by the members of the Guild at a blind tasting and only wines showing technical excellence and maturation potential are selected for the auction, ensuring that each wine offered is of exceptional quality.

A similar procedure was followed when selecting the wines to be bottled under the Fundi label. The wines selected for the Fundi range were tasted blind by the CWG panel and those which made it through the second rigorous selection process all scored a high rating. Consumers can buy Fundi wines confident in the knowledge that they are purchasing unique, quality wines selected for them by some of the country’s most experienced winemakers and that they’re contributing to a lasting legacy of hope.

The wines specially selected for bottling under the Fundi label were produced by six different wineries.
